JAMMU: Both men and women teams of University of Jammu (JU) on Saturday reached the third round of pre-quarterfinals in the ongoing North Zone Inter-University Handball Championship, organised by JU on the campus grounds, here.
In the men’s second round match, JU defeated MJPR Barelly by a comfortable margin with final score being 41-24. Now, JU shall take on Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri in the pre-quarterfinals on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Earlier, BGSBU got walkover Chandigarh University, Mohali.
To reach the pre-quarterfinals, the JU women got walkover BGSBU Rajouri on Saturday. Now, JU shall be playing against Guru Angad Dev University Ludhiana at 3:00 PM.
Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak is the defending champion in both sections has been given bye in the preliminary rounds and shall be playing directly in the quarterfinals stages.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel comprising Govind, Lakwinder Singh, Vikas Sharma, Kartar Dogra, Karun Magotra, Anup Singh, Iqbal Singh, Karamveer, Sanjeev Singh, Kapil Sagotra, Prabhleem Kour, Priya Charak, Reeva Rajput, Pooja Sharma, Ashish, Priya Choudhary, Rupali Sharma, Rashmi Sharma, Bhanu Priya, and Anita.
The results: MEN: Delhi University Sports Council beat CDLU Sirsa 36–35; GNDU Amritsar got walkover GKV Hardwar; PTU Jallandhar got walkover Amity University, Noida; Allahabad University defeated Bundelkhand University, Jhansi 33–18; Jammu University outplayed MJPR Barelly 41–24; BGSBU Rajouri got walkover Chandigarh University, Mohali; LPU Phagwara trounced HNBGU Srinagar, Gharwal 29–09; Dr. RMLA University Faizabad blanked GADV University Ludhiana 41–29.
WOMEN: RML Awadh University beat PTU Jallandhar 40-04; PU Chandigarh defeated PAU Ludhiana 21–06; MJPRU Barelly blanked CSJM University Kanpur 16–03; HP University Shimla got walkover Kamaun University Nainital; GAD University, Ludhiana got walkover Integral University, Lucknow; University of Jammu got walkover BGSBU, Rajouri; CCSU Meerut downed GNDU Amritsar 31–28
