South Zone scores 289 runs in 1st innings

PUNE: North Zone were in a commanding position at 99/3 against East Zone’s modest total of 132 runs in the first innings of the semifinal match of maiden Women’s Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy at Pune Cricket Club, Pune today.
Both the players from Jammu and Kashmir namely Chitra Singh Jamwal and Sarla Devi failed to make it to the Playing XI.
Earlier, batting first, East Zone scored 132 runs in 71.4 overs in their first innings. Monikha Das and Durga Murmu scored 29 and 28 runs respectively, while Dharamshala Gujjar and Uma Chetry contributed 17 and 13 runs to the total respectively.
For North Zone, Amanjot Kaur, Shafali Verma and Priyanka Sharma took 2 wickets each, while Parunika Sisodia and Nandani Sharma claimed one wicket each.
In reply, North Zone were comfortably placed at 99/3 at the draw of stumps on day-1 today.
Shafali Verma was unbeaten on 57 runs off 83 balls with 10 boundaries, while Priya Punia scored 27 runs off 35 balls with 6 boundaries. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 10 runs to the total.
Mamta Paswan bagged 2 wickets, while Deepti claimed one for the East Zone.
In another semifinal at DY Patil Academy ground Ambi, Pune, winning the toss and batting first, South Zone scored a decent total of 289 runs in their first innings.
Arundathi Reddy top scored with 85 runs studded with 9 boundaries, while Sanjana S contributed 74 runs with 10 fours. Tamanna Nigam also scored 55 runs with 7 boundaries.
Radha Yadhav was the pick of the bowlers for West Zone, who took 4 wickets, while SB Pokharkar bagged 3 wickets. AA Patil and DP Vaidya claimed one wicket each. West Zone, in reply, were 9/1 at stumps today. DP Vaidya was at the crease on 8 runs, while Riyaz Chaudhari was dismissed for 1 run by Arundathi Reddy.
