Noise Pollution in Jammu: Ban on power horns

JAMMU: A Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice M.M Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan directed Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic Jammu to ensure that no power horn is used in any vehicle as per the directions issued by the Supreme Court.
This direction came after hearing both sides in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Vasu Dubey regarding violation of Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 and seeking directions to implement the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court in the case of Forum, Prevention of Environmental and Sound Pollution v/s Union of India,
After hearing Varut Kumar Gupta for the petitioner and Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the state, granted one last opportunity to respondents including District Magistrate, Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Jammu, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, all Sub Divisional Magistrates and other Officers including SHOs to comply with the directions issued in the aforesaid orders and compliance report be filed with regard to the steps taken within three weeks with copy in advance to counsel opposite. If the compliance report is not filed then District Magistrate, Jammu and Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu shall remain present in person to answer the court queries. JNF
