JAMMU: Natraj Natya Kunj (NNK), Cultural Society Jammu performed Dogri adaptation of William Shakespeare tragedy Play Macbeth; The Crown Of Blood at Studio Ranglok Bakshi Nagar on Wednesday. Supported by Sangeet Natak Akademi New Delhi and directed by Abhishek Bharti, the play is a story of Macbeth who is a courageous Scottish general not naturally inclined to commit evil deeds, but kills the king against his better judgment and afterward stews in guilt and paranoia. In Abhishek Bharti’s version, Shakespeare’s dark tragedy stands transported from its original medieval Scottish locale to an ancient and tribal place and bestowed with a kind of timelessness and universality. Drawing elements from Indian classical dramaturgical discourses, Bharata’s Natya Shastra and traditional Indian performance mode-all stand assimilated into Abhishek’s own distinct form.
Those who acted in the play included Lalit Sharma, Karan Mehra, Akshay Razdan, Aman Sharma, Mukesh Bakshi, Niharika Sakshi, Kanav Sharma, Karan, Anshika Sharma and Hema Shivgotra. Production was managed by Lalit Sharma and assisted by Akshay Razdan. The play was designed by Kumar A ‘Bharti’, make-up by Shammi Dhamir, sets and property by Anshika, Hema and Priya Sharma, Costumes by Niharika Sakshi, Stage Manager Manik & Rahul, Associate director & lights Aditya Bharti.
