JAMMU: After fighting a lonely battle for last more than 10 days the stage is set for ‘Tiranga Satyagraha’ by the outstation NIT students at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi from Sunday.
After moving out of the NIT Srinagar campus outstation NIT students have been desperately trying to convince the MHRD officials and political dispensation at the helm of affairs both at the Centre and the State that they were not ready to return to the campus till their primary demands were met.
The students have been demanding permanent deployment of CRPF on the campus, strict action against the J&K Police officers responsible for brutal lathicharge on the students, appointment of faculty from outside the State and immediately formation of student’s council besides other academic issues.
Meanwhile, the success of Sunday’s protest demonstration would once again put the NIT administration and the MHRD Ministry in the dock. Despite issuing lengthy statements the NIT authorities too have failed to reach out to the agitating students and take adequate measures to restore sense of security among the students.
Ahead of beginning of the Budget session after a month long recess the NIT students are expected to make the Tiranga Satyagraha a grand success and have been working hard to mobilise support of students from different colleges across Delhi and other institutions.
In Jammu too large number of NIT students on Saturday took out a protest rally from Press Club in support of their demands.
According to the online survey conducted by the NIT students, majority of students have decided to boycott their classes resuming from April 25. Now it remains to be seen whether the Centre/State Governments would rise to the occasion and succumb to the genuine demands of the NIT students or try and crush their voice to fail their ongoing agitation.
