UDHAMPUR: Students of all Degree Colleges in Udhampur boycotted their classes, came on the road and held a protest in Udhampur over NIT issue. Protest was organised in support of patriotic students who were brutally assaulted by Kashmir Police with clandestine connivance of NIT staff. Protestors raised anti-Govt. and police slogans and urged the Govt. to initiate stern action against the erroneous police officials who used force upon innocent students in the premises of the institute. Students also blocked the Jammu Kashmir National Highway at Jakheni Chowk for more than four hours to disrupt traffic movement on the road and to show their strong resentment.
According to reports, students of Degree College Boys, Women and Baskar College boycotted their classes and came on the road to mark their protest against the Govt. for not initiating any action against the erring police officials and staff of NIT. Thousands of irate students took out peaceful protest rally from their respective colleges which passed through Dhar Road, National Highway, Dak Bungalow Road, MH Chowk, Sallian Talab,Slathia Chowk, Domail,Chowk and finally assembled at National Highway crossing Jakheni Chowk in Udhampur. Police rushed its contingents which were standby to control the situation. Protestors which were carrying Tricolor raised slogans demanding justice for NIT victims who were mercilessly beaten up by police in the premises of the institute in broad day light. Protestors also blocked the highway for more than four hours. However students were protesting peacefully in support of NIT student’s issue but situation turned tense when ADC and Addl SP reached the spot to take the stock of situation.
ADC Rana instead of listening to the students, reacted arrogantly and asked the students to lift Dharna. Over this attitude of ADC, protesting students got annoyed and raised slogans against ADC also and asked him to go back.
Addressing mammoth rally of students, spokespersons alleged that why till date no legal action has been initiated against erring police officials who used force upon innocent students and those who celebrated defeat of Indian team and raised anti India slogans have not been arrested. They also questioned why police forgot to act upon JNU students who openly raised slogans at New Delhi.
They questioned is law meant for only patriotic persons who invariably come in the support of nation, and why not anti national element be handled with law of land? Protestors said they will not stop their protest till ADC apologises for his arrogant behaviour and justice imparted to the NIT students. However later ADC keeping in view the rising tempers and volatile situation apologised and the situation made normal.
KATHUA: ABVP Kathua on Saturday held a protest in front of GDC Kathua in the leadership of ABVP College Unit Girls incharge Akriti Sumbria against police action on NIT students.
On this occasion Student For Development (SFD) State Incharge Rahul Dev Sharma said that there should be immediate revocation of the FIR that is lodged against the nationalist students of NIT Srinagar. He also demanded safe and secure NIT campus where prime focus should be given the security of non local students.
He also assured the parents of local students from Kathua studying in NIT, that their wards are safe in campus and some of ABVP members in Srinagar are helping the students.
ABVP State Joint Secretary Akshay Bharti demanded immediate action on the police officials as well as the NIT authorities who committed such brutalities.
ABVP District Convener Mayank Bhagotra, City SFD Inchage Naveen Jasrotia, Sumit Sudan, Rahgu Andotra, Sanjay Sharma, Ajay were also present during the protest.
SAMBA: Students of GDC Samba held a protest against State Govt over the issue of Lathicharge on NIT students in Srinagar.
Students boycotted their classes and took out a protest rally. The protest was led by Sandeep Sharma Vice President AYC Samba .
A large numbers of students participated in the rally and shouted slogans against State Govt and demanded security for non-Kashmiri students studying in NIT Srinagar.
Sandep Sharma Vice President AYC Samba said that the government should take stern action against the police officials who did that brutal act.
He also demanded that the security of the students must be tightened as they are getting threats from the locals and the college staff.
