JAMMU: A large number of students, under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on Monday protested at Jammu University campus against the brutal State Police crackdown on the outstation students and imposition of Section 144 in the NIT campus Srinagar.
The protesting students demanded strict action against those involved.
Waving the Tricolour, they raised nationalist slogans like “Mera Tera NIT, Khoon Bhi Dege Jaan Bhi Dege Kashmir Ki Maati Kabhi Na Dege, ABVP Zindabaad, Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Vande Matram, student power nation power” in support of those non-local students who were beaten by the J and K police.
The protesters assembled near the Fountain Plaza Jammu University and moved towards the main gate where the DGP K. Rajendera was ‘Ghearoed’ by the students demanding immediate suspension of the police officials involved in the NIT violence.
“It’s shocking that police entered the campus to Lathicharge those students who were peacefully raising slogans like ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’,” they said.
All those J and K police officials who ordered this Lathicharge should be immediately suspended,” said Kanav Sharma, Secretary Jammu University, who led the protest.
“Some people are trying to do their dirty politics by terming the issue a trivial one and a scuffle between local versus non local students, but actually it’s a issue of anti-national elements trying to suppress the nationalist students and their sentiments,” said Kanav.
Abhinav Pandotra State Joint Secretary, Deepak Gupta Jammu Joint Secretary Sidhant Randhawa and Prashant Shiv were also present.
