NH1A, 1B, link roads closed due to landslides, shooting stones

BHADARWAH: Continuous rain coupled with thunderstorm and strong winds since last 24 hours, which triggered shooting stones and landslides near Kheri area of Udhampur and at several places between Batote-Doda stretch, forced authorities to suspend traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway(NH1A), Batote-Kishtwar National Highway(NH1B) and other link roads on Sunday morning.
According to reports, The NH1A was closed after heavy mudslides hit Kheri area of Udhampur District while authorities suspended traffic on 110 Km NH1B due to fresh landslides and shooting stones at Assar and Khaleni area after torrential rains since last 24 hours.
According to reports, Bhadarwah-Doda Road also remained closed for vehicular traffic since morning due to felling of trees, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones at several places including Bhalla, Senai and Drudhu.
When contacted Dy.S.P Traffic NH1B Aftab Ahmed said that National Highway 1A has been closed for traffic after heavy mudslides hit Kheri area of Udhampur District early morning. NH1B is also closed due to fresh landslides at Assar area while Bhadarwah-Doda Road is closed at Senai, Bhalla and Drudhu area.
“Men and machines are there to restore the roads but hostile weather, strong winds and continuous shooting stones are hampering the restoration work,” He added.
