NH blocked over death of woman, husband’s arrest demanded

Vijaypur: Irked over the death of a woman, her relatives and family members blocked national highway for two hours by placing her body near Vijaypur for demanding arrest of husband for beating her due to which she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday night at GMC Hospital Jammu.
Parents of Pooja (23) wife of Ashwani Kumar residents of Ward Number 12 Vijaypur and locals today gathered at Main Chowk Vijaypur on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, placed the body on road and shouted slogans against Police Department for not taking any action against the culprits. They alleged her husband had torchered her as she delivered a baby girl.
They alleged that after delivering the baby girl, her husband Ashwani Kumar started to torchering her and demanded rupees five lakh from her parents and also did not to accept girl child. “Around ten days back, Pooja was beaten, burnt with electric iron and was forced to leave her. On 6th January she was admitted at GMC’s ICU where she died yesterday evening” they said.
On receiving the information, SDM Vijaypur Ravinder Sharma rushed to the spot and assured the protestors that he would do justice with them. He also told them that the husband of the deceased was already arrested by Vijaypur Police and investigation is going on. On assurance of SDM, they left national highway and took the dead body for her last rites.
It is pertinent to mention that Pooja Devi was adopted by her uncle (Mama) Gara Ram from Kamore Camp Ramgarh and was married in 2015.
