The advent of 2016 saw Union Government rolling out ‘free diagnostics’ scheme for common man’s health. At that the health ministry has written to all states asking them to start providing a basket of essential services free to patients visiting public healthcare facilities. The diagnostic services offered under the scheme were blood and urine tests for chronic diseases like diabetes, for tropical diseases like malaria and dengue, HIV tests, as well as essential imaging and radiology services like X-ray, CT scan and ultrasound. The move in earnest if implemented gives big relief for common man who most of the times due to the exorbitant charges taken by the testing laboratories, mostly run by private enterprises, and the financial compulsions is unable to provide the much needed medical care to the needy. Rajasthan had introduced the system in way back 2013. Along with Union Government’s move to upgrade district hospitals across the country, particularly in those districts which do not have a medical college is a welcome decision and a right step in the direction of providing affordable medical care to the needy. The move also make health services uniform across the country. So was the end with another dose for financial health of the country and curbing growing menace of black money, government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a master stroke brought in demonetisation on 8th November. Economy did shatter initially and with the passage of stipulated 50 days as requested by the Prime Minister started balancing with flushing out of black money beyond the expectation of the banking and financial wizards. The midnight stroke has cut down the unwanted flab the economy had accumulated through people beyond their means. Hereafter it looks people have learnt to live in an economically disciplined life with slowing down of black money generation. And now onwards the money generation would be transparent and clean thus to some extent dilute the stigma of one of the most corrupt nations where doing business is a difficult proportion. The global investor will find an India healthy and clean with a transparent governance awaiting for business tie-up. Putting aside all opposition diatribe Modi government would always have the distinction of assertiveness and clear cut policy.
