JAMMU: Journey to Udhampur from Jammu and vice-versa has become more comfortable as all the tunnels at Nandini on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH) have been inaugurated on Saturday.
The existing road in Nandini Wild Life area from toll plaza to JKTDC is about 6.8 km length having poor geometry, sharp curve, hair pin bends and steep grades.
The new alignment through series of bridges and tunnels have length of 3.60 km which will provide smooth ride for commuters.
All tunnels are properly illuminated and has 2-lane 7.50 carriageway with footpath on either sides.
Tunnel T-4 has ventilation system to ensure fresh air supply and a cross passage from left tube to right tube.
On the Jammu-Udhampur road, there are 5 bridges in between; one bridge between T-1 and T-2 has the height of about 52 m, highest in the project.
The Jammu-Udhampur road widening project is part of the National Highway Authority of India flagship project of four-laning Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The entire stretch of Jammu-Udhampur road has 64 major 2-lane bridges, 61 minor two lane bridges and 4 twin tube tunnels which were inaugurated today and are functional from now on.
