Nehru, Wattal inaugurate sterilisation centre for stray animals

JAMMU: Secretary to Government, Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD), Satesh Nehru on Monday inaugurated Municipal Sterilisation/Immunisation for stray animals in presence of Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Kiran Wattal.
Joint Commissioner (Adm), Kapil Sharma, Assistant Commissioner (Rev), Executive Engineers, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Special Assistant to Commissioner, Chief Transport Officer, Assistant Executive Engineer and other staff of the Corporation besides representatives of NGOs working in this field were also present.
Satesh Nehru appreciated the efforts of Municipal Corporation in creating the facility within a short time and assured full support to make the programme sustainable on long term basis. He also advised for tying up with the Animal Welfare Board of India and other associated agencies so that the aims and objectives for opening such a Centre would be achieved.
Wattal highlighted the main features of the project which is being done under the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). He appreciated the role of Deputy Commissioner for taking keen interest in handing over the infrastructure to Municipal Corporation for making the facility functional.
Wattal informed that an amount of Rs. 20 lakh has been incurred in upgrading the infrastructure which included operation theatre, kennel, tiling and other allied work. “Further, an amount of Rs 3 lakh has been expanded in making available the medical equipments, etc to make the centre operational”, he added.
Seema Koul and Dr. N.K Verma representatives from NGO also spoke on the occasion and thanked the corporation in establishing such a centre in Jammu region.
