Need to sensitise people on human rights: Div Com

JAMMU: MIER College of Education distributed award certificates among the fifth batch of students of the UGC sponsored three months course on Human Rights and Values at a function held here.
On the occasion, Dr Mandeep Bhandari, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, was the Chief Guest. Dr. Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER, Dr. Adit Gupta, Director MIER, Dr. N.R Sharma, Dean Academics, HoDs of various departments, Centre Heads along with the staff members and students of the college were also present.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest.
Dr Adit Gupta said that the Central Government is fervently inculcating awareness regarding human rights in all the sections of the society and what better way to achieve this than by enlightening the youth through such an educational endeavour. The course is all the more relevant in the modern context in which violation against the weaker sections of the society are escalating day by day, he added.
Dr Mandeep Bhandari, in his address, said that awareness of human rights is the need of the hour and values are the part of our Indian history.
“Being human, we should be more compassionate towards others. Every human being is entitled to some basic rights and they have to be ensured by every government. On their own part, everybody should be conscious of their rights and fight for them,” he added. He said that we should also respect the rights of other human beings and we need to sensitise more and more people.
Later, the Chief Guest distributed certificates among the students.
Dr Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER presented a memento to the Chief Guest as a token of gratitude.
Monika Rathore, Course Incharge, gave a brief introduction of the course. A group song on theme of Human Rights and Values was presented by the students of the Model Academy.
Shria Abrol Counselor MIER presented vote of thanks.
