National Pharmacovigilance (Drug Safety) Week starts in GMC Jammu

JAMMU: Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu on Monday started the celebrations of National Pharmacovigilance (Drug Safety) Week 2023 under, National Programme on Drug safety of Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, National Coordination Centre, Pharmacovigilance Programme of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI.
Dr Yash Pal Sharma, Director Coordination, New Medical Colleges, Nursing and Paramedical Colleges UT of J&K, inaugurated the proceedings of the week-long activities with leading the walkathon march for patients awareness on drug safety as Chief Guest. Lotika Khajuria, State Drug Controller Jammu and Kashmir was the Guest of Honour in the programme.
This was followed by CME on ‘Drug and Patient Safety’, organised by Department of Pharmacology ADRM Centre, GMC Jammu.
Dr Yash Pal Sharma said that ADR centre have been made operational at old and new medical colleges of the state.
Further another new programme started by IPC metiro-vigllance programme of India dealing with safety of devises and equipment has been now the part of every old and new medical college of UT of J&K.
Health and medical education department is committed to take this programme further down to every possible health care level in health department as well.
Lotika Khajuria said in her address that Pharmacovigilance which deals with drug safety and Patient safety issues also helps in Promoting rational use of medicines across various disciplines of Medicines. Creating awareness among doctors and health care professional about such programme will strengthen the cause and objective of this National Programme.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal Dean, GMC Jammu congratulated, Dr Seema Gupta Professor and Head Department of Pharmacology GMC Jammu and Dr Vishal Tandon In-charge ADRM Centre for conducting such an important scientific event for the benefit of our faculty, doctors, Graduate and postgraduate students which will go long way in generating sense of responsibility and commitment in rational drug prescription.
Dr Seema Gupta Professor and Head deliberated on patient/Drug Safety in the said CME.
Dr Shabnam Choudhary, Senior Most Professor of the Department, deliberated on adverse drug reaction amongst palliative care population.
Prof. Dr Vishal R Tandon, In-charge ADRM and MvPI centre GMC Jammu, said that public participation is very important by directly reporting any adverse drug or vaccine reactions to our ADRM centre or at Toll free helpline number of PvPI (18001803024) or through ADR PvPI – Apps on Google Play.
The sessions was moderated by Dr Irtiqa Ayani and Dr Sheena Sethi and Dr Nasreen Akhtar postgraduate students of department of Pharmacology.
The CME was attended by various HODs, officials from administration, senior faculty members, residents postgraduates, Medical Supdt. nurses and paramedical staff of GMC & AH.
