National level cycle race in Srinagar on May 31

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing a national level Cycle Race (Pedal for Kashmir) in Srinagar on 31st May. The event is being organized to promote sports among the youth of the State. More than 1500 cyclists including 50 cyclists of national fame have registered their participation in the mega event. Some international cyclists are also participating in the race.
This was disclosed by IGP (IR Kashmir), S.A Watali, who is also Organizing Secretary for the event, while finalizing the arrangements for the mega event. He said that cyclists (male and female) of different age groups are participating in the race and registration is in full swing and willing cyclists are registering their participation at Armed Police Headquarters Srinagar and J and K Sports Council. Registration would also be made at the venue (Police Golf Course Boulevard Road) on 31st May morning.
The IGP said under 12 category race will be held from the venue up to Shalimar Garden, covering a total distance of 9.5 kms in 16 minutes.
The under 19 category will also start from the venue up to Nigeen Club-via Lalit Grand Palace, covering distance in 33 minutes.
Senior group would start their race from the venue from Pandach Crossing, covering 18.5 kms in 27 minutes, he added.
Giving further details, Watali said that top five cyclists in senior category will get cash prizes of Rs.50,000, Rs.40,000, Rs.30,000, Rs.20,00 and Rs.10,000 respectively.
Similarly in junior category top five winners would be awarded Rs.30,000, Rs.25,000, Rs.20,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively.
Under 12 boys and girls category, the top ten winners will get Rs.25,000, Rs.20,000, Rs.15,000, Rs.12,000, Rs.10,000, Rs.7,500, Rs.5,000, Rs.4,000, Rs.2,500 and Rs.1500 respectively.
The flag off ceremony would start at 6:30 AM and prize distribution function would be held at 8:30 AM at the venue.
Entry for all categories is free and cyclists representing different sports clubs and educational institutions can participate in the event.
