JAMMU: A colloquium on the legal rights of street children and of transgenders was organised on the eve of ‘National Legal Services Day’ held on 7th November 2014 at District Court Complex Kishtwar under the chairmanship of Bala Jyoti, Principal District and Sessions Judge (Chairman District Legal Services Authority).
Deputy Commissioner Javed Ahmed Khan presided over and Senior Superintendent of Police Yougal Manhas who is also a member of District Legal Services Authority was present on the occasion.
The President Bar Association, Kishtwar, Om Parkash Parihar read the welcome address, while Advocate Khursheed Ahmed Dev spoke on rights of transgenders and Advocate Rajesh Sharma spoke on legal rights of under-trial, whereas, Tarun Kumar student of Boys Higher Secondary School, Kishtwar spoke on legal rights of transgenders and Mamuna Malik spoke on rights of women and children.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Kishtwar Balbir Lal presented a vote of thanks and Munsiff Kishtwar Adnan Sayed compeered the proceedings.
On the occasion Bala Jyoti, Principal District and Sessions Judge, apprised the audience about legal rights of street and underprivileged children and asked to be sensitive towards these issues. She also emphasised various schemes of Legal Aid for welfare of detenuee and other victims entitled to compensation.
A series of awareness programmes, workshops were also organised at Padder, Nagseni, Mughal Maidan in hilly terrains of District Kishtwar and Ashyana Orphanage Kishtwar, wherein people were made aware of legal rights of women folk, transgenders, senior citizens. Many prominent persons of locality, revenue officers, Bar members, CDPO, Superintendent District Jail Kishtwar, CMO Kishtwar, Addl. District Development Commissioner Kishtwar, Executive Officer Municipal Committee, Asstt. Executive Engineer PHE, Chief Medical Officer and Public Prosecutor Kishtwar, Senior Prosecuting Officers, were present on the occasion.
