National Institute of Open Schooling organises learners’ activity on environment

CHANDIGARH: National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) in collaboration with UNFPA organised a Learners Engagement Activity programme at the campus of YMCA here on Wednesday.
NIOS is an initiative of the Union Government to attend to the needs of the deprived sections of the society. It caters to the needy students, who otherwise are not in position to attend formal system of schooling.
The theme of the programme was Environment. Learners along with their coordinators from the region participated in the programme. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Minister of Finance and Planning, Government of Punjab was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He lauded the efforts of NIOS and also appreciated the dedication of the students and their teachers for successful conduct of the programme. Dr. T.N Giri, Regional Director apprised the participants about the aim of the activity. Winners of poster making competition, creative writing competition and role play activity were given prizes by the Chief Guest. As token of appreciation, books on general awareness and environment, DVD on conservation of environment were also distributed.
The programme was anchored by Dr. Pawan Kumar Jain, Section Officer and coordinated by G S Dhillon, Senior Executive Officer while Hardeep Singh, Assistant Director presented the vote of thanks.
