LEH: Two days orientation-cum-dissemination workshop organised by National Health Mission, J and K on Maternal and Child Health Guidelines was held at Leh on Saturday.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Yashpal Sharma, Mission Director, NHM, J and K and Dr Saleem Ur Rehman, Director Health Services, Kashmir.
Dr Yashpal urged for plugging of gaps in the delivery of essential services through action at various levels of the healthcare delivery system so that best maternal and child health care is provided to the community.
He said what is needed, was the close monitoring, dedication and professional acumen of the medical and paramedical staff deployed in various health institutions.
He said though NRHM has provided both infrastructural as well as manpower strengthening in Health Department besides adequate equipments in health institutions, onus lies on medical and paramedical staff to appropriately use these healthcare facilities with a missionary mode and update their knowledge with latest guidelines to serve the community.
Dr Saleem appreciated the support provided by National Health Mission in creating better health infrastructure and service delivery through various programme and schemes from time to time.
Performance Review Document of Health department for the year 2013-14 and Operational Guidelines of State Health Society, J and K for the year 2014-15 were also released by Dr Saleem.
Chief Medical Officer Leh, Dr Phunsokh Wangchuk said that the Health Department is committed to provide quality health care in the region and requested for adequate funding from NHM.
Chief Medical Officer, Kargil, Dr Shabir Hussain requested for including the Kargil District in the list of high priority districts for enhanced funding under NHM.
The inaugural session was followed by technical session for two days in which detailed presentations on Maternal and Child Health Guidelines were made by Dr Harjeet Rai, Divisional Nodal Officer Jammu, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Divisional Nodal Officer Kashmir, Dr. Younis Mushtaq Associate Programme Manager, Dr. Arshid Nazir Assistant Program Manager and Junaid Zaroo, Assistant Programme Manager State Health Society.
