JAMMU: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in collaboration with J&K Traffic Police Department is observing Road Safety Week from 9th to 15th January 2016.
This was disclosed by RTO Jammu, AK Khajuria while interacting with media persons here on Saturday.
Khajuria informed that the Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) will flag off the Walkathon on 9th January at Gulshan Ground, Police Auditorium, Jammu. During the week number of programmes are being organized by the department, he said.
“On 10th January, a road safety awareness camp will be organized for the driver of commercial vehicles at Railway Station at 11:00 AM and Maheshpura at 2:30 PM. On 11th January, a Cyclothon will be organized at University Campus near General Zorawar Singh Auditorium. Blood donation camp on 12th January at RTO Office, Narwal and painting competition on 14th January at Kala Kendra, Jammu on top Road Safety where in about 500 students are likely to participate in the competition,” he added.
“On the concluding day, the 15th of January, a valedictory function will be organised in which Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) will felicitated the students excelling in each activity during the week,” he informed.
“The J&K State being a hilly state is more prone to accidents so it’s the need of the hour that the subject of Road Safety should be adopted by the society as cultural ethos,” Khajuria said.
