Dear Editor,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an exemplary trend to mark the birth anniversary of S Radhakrishnan on 5th September , by celebrating Teachers’ Day in a unique style. For the first time, the country’s Prime Minister interacted directly with school children across the country on this day. The day was celebrated in earlier years through formalities like giving newspaper advertisements and honouring selected teachers, with the events going unnoticed. It is an irony that while the Congress could not give due credit to its legendary party heroes like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and S Radhakrishnan, Modi has honoured these great personalities.
However, the timing of Prime Minister Modi’s interaction should have been in the morning hours so as to avoid the disruption of the normal schedule of schools. Also, the deliberate avoiding of the event by the Director of National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi, an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, is a matter of deep concern.
