JAMMU: Jammu Mayor Rajinder Sharma promised more steps to eradicate corruption and alleviate the common man’s problems as he sought the help of youngsters to build a New Jammu.
Addressing more than 500 students at SPMR Commerce College Jammu on Wednesday, Rajinder Sharma said, “no corruption in system and no corruption in elections can help us to develop the infrastructure and maintain its quality.”
In a move to institutionalise the initiative, Sharma said the different groups of youngsters must also suggest policy initiatives since his Modi government is “keen to explore new avenues and ways for the betterment of people.”
Sharma said corruption needed to be rooted out and a nation can be developed only by honest leaders and honest system.
Talking about easing the lives of people, he said that middlemen who used to earn money by promising jobs to young people, have been weeded out ever since the government put an end to the system of interviews for Group III and IV employees. They are the ones shouting the most about unemployment, he said.
Another measure that has eased the lives of common people is self-attestation of certificates.
Referring to the JMC, Sharma said that in the past development works were based on recommendation, but now we have transformed the process. Only merits and competence is being valued, he added.
Asking young students to innovate and suggest solutions to deal with different issues, Jammu Mayor said, he would ask everyone to help us to keep Jammu City neat and clean.
Stressing that he himself wants to work together with all citizens of all religions towards a New Jammu, Rajinder Sharma said, “Every one of us is equally patriotic and wants our Nation to scale new heights of progress. There is no difference in our love for the Nation, Jammu Mayor added.
