Mob ransacks police post over bootlegger’s death, damages vehicles

JAMMU: The angry mob on Friday ransacked the Police Post Gajansoo after the death of one bootlegger, who was arrested on 13th December with illicit liquor pouches.
The residents of Gajansoo, which is situated on the outskirts of Jammu city, alleged that the death has been caused by severe thrashing of the youth by the cops while he was in police custody.
According to police, deceased Rinku, who was reportedly arrested on 13th December with pouches of illicit liquor was released on Wednesday night after his bail.
Shouting anti-police slogans, protestors barged into the Police Post Gajansoo and vandalised the building. Angry mob also damaged around five two-wheelers, a car and a police van.
They also pushed the motorbikes and a scooter into the nearby canal, which were later pulled out by the cops.
The demonstrators were demanding justice and later shifted the body to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
SHO Kanachak, Rajesh Sharma said that Rinku was a drug addict and was already involved in many cases. He said the autopsy was executed in the presence of MLA Marh Sukhnandan Choudhary and there was no mark of injury found on the body of deceased.
“In the mêlée, two constables received severe injuries. The angry mob also destroyed the important record of police post and the daily diary. The case has been registered against the mob under relevant sections,” the SHO Kanachak said, adding that, few of the miscreants who were involved in vandalising the police property have been identified.
