JAMMU: To highlight various crucial issues, a delegation of MJR-47 led by its Convener J S Sudan and others members called on Tarun Chugh, BJP Senior leader Prabhari UT J&K, in Jammu on Friday.
On the occasion, while discussing various issues concerning Jammu region, the delegation stated that Jammu, which was earlier famous as ‘City of Temples’ has been converted into a ‘City of refugees’ by many classes of refugees starting from so-called DPs of 1947 from PoJK and West Pakistan, then from Chhamb in 1965-71, then KPs from valley in 1989 and then Rohingyas & Bangladeshis.
Sudan said that it has been done with vested interests and malafide intentions to destroy heritage and culture of Jammu region which is unique and totally different from that of Kashmir and Ladakh regions. No Govt in past has ever been serious to solve problems of its DPs of 1947 and 1965-71, he added.
The delegation expressed gratitude towards UT Administration and Union Government for installing Guru Nanak Chair in the University of Jammu, which was a long pending demand of Sikh community. A number of other demands and issues were also discussed on the occasion, which included implementation of package for R&R, defreezing of assembly seats kept reserved for PoJK, reservation in higher education institutes for wards of DPs, special employment package etc.
Chugh gave the delegation a patient hearing to all the demands and assured for taking up all highlighted issues with concerned. He further assured that to maintain and glorify heritage of Jammu, a statue of historical hero Banda Singh Bahadur would soon be installed.
Others present on the occasion included Vice President BJP J&K Yudhvir Sethi, Suchwant Singh, O P Khajuria, Bavoo Singh from Srinagar, Vinod Kumar and Harjit Singh.
