Mission LiFE events culminate at SKUAST-J

JAMMU: The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), in collaboration with NAHEP-IDP and the NSS wing of SKUAST-Jammu, recently organized an expert lecture on “Environmental Degradation and Climate Change” as part of the “Mission LiFE” initiative.
The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices among students and the community.
Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Prof. Tripathi expressed concern about the adverse effects of climatic changes resulting from the overexploitation of resources.
He emphasized the importance of transitioning to sustainable practices, aligning with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (COP 26). Prof. Tripathi stressed the significance of adopting eco-friendly lifestyles at both individual and community levels to promote environmental conservation. The event featured an expert lecture by Prof. A.S Jasrotia from the University of Jammu, who discussed critical issues related to climate change, such as natural calamities and their impact on rivers like Jhelum, Chenab, and Indus.
Prof. Rajinder Peshin, Director of Education and Chairperson of the Mission LiFE Programme at SKUAST-Jammu, provided an overview of Mission LiFE, its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and its focus on circular economy principles.
Additionally, the event recognized the winners of poster and ideation competitions conducted earlier as student pre-events.
Yashaswini Sharma won the first prize in the poster making competition for her work on the theme “Swatcha Bharat-Unnat Bharat,” while Divyansh Pandey secured the first prize in the ideation competition for his concept on “Hormones from Stallion Urine.”
Certificates, mementoes, and cash prizes were awarded to the winners. Officers of SKUAST-Jammu Prof. S K Gupta, Director of Research; Prof. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension; Prof. Sanjay Khar, Director Planning and Monitoring; Prof. Anil Kumar, Dean Faculty of Agriculture; Prof. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry; Prof. Vikas Tandon, Dean Faculty of Horticulture & Forestry; Prof. Sushil Sharma, Dean Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Prof. S.E.H Rizvi, Dean Faculty of Basic Sciences graced the event with their presence.
The programme was attended by Heads of Divisions, Associate Director Extension, faculty members and over 700 students of various faculties of the University. Prof. Sudhakar Dwivedi, Dean Student Welfare extended formal vote of thanks. Dr. Ankur Rastogi conducted the proceedings of the event.
