SURANKOTE: RTI activist and Chairman Awake India, Ayaz Mughal has demanded an instant enquiry into matter of construction of Mastandara to Chamrer Road which was taken up by the Public Works Department (R&B) Poonch in the year 2009-10 but even after the lapse of significant period, alleging the work stands unfinished and an embezzlement of crores of rupees has taken place. The concerned department has stalled the construction of mentioned project after executing the ground work of stretch of approximately 1 Km only.
Ayaz Mughal said that, “We, along with a number of villagers, had submitted a memorandum to the Public Works Department (PWD), but the concerned officials are turning a blind eye to the matter. We are constrained to assume that this large scale embezzlement in public money is not possible without the connivance and complicity of the concerned department. We are in no doubt that a huge amount has been withdrawn after preparing fake and fictitious bills, muster rolls, measurements and other related documents.”
“We cannot sit back silently and watch the draining of public money from State exchequer in this way without any substantial development for the general public of the village”, he added.
He further said that the concerned department, instead of taking action against the erring officials and contractors, over non-fulfillment of clauses of the agreement has been spending public money again and again on the same construction work. The villagers have the right to know as to why the department has spared the defaulting contractors.
Mughal demanded an immediate enquiry so that fact could be brought to surface and appropriate action could be taken and the loss to the public exchequer may also be recovered, failing which, along with the villagers; he will organize a protest on the road.
