Ministers ignoring crises, busy in inaugural functions: Tak

KISHTWAR: Lashing the State Government for showing total indifference towards the plight of flood hit people of Chenab Valley, prominent People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and party candidate for Kishtwar Assembly Constituency, Firdous Tak on Tuesday expressed surprise over the conduct of some ministers who were resorting to inaugural functions and stone laying ceremonies at a time when Jammu and Kashmir was passing through a difficult phase.
Tak expressed regret that the ministers are doing nothing to assess the losses in Chenab Valley region and continue with the practice of holding photo sessions for media coverage when they should actually be ensuring relief and rehabilitation work.
“It is highly unfortunate that hundreds of houses have been damaged in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban Districts while thousands of Kanals of land has been washed away across the region, including inaccessible areas Marwah, Warwan, Dachan and Chatroo areas but the people are still waiting for some relief.” Tak said adding that people are waiting for compensation to rebuild their damaged houses immediately in view of the approaching winter but the ministers are only issuing media statements and doing nothing on the ground.
He further said that the ruling party ministers were blatantly using Govt machinery to show their presence in post flood situation, while they were missing on the ground when needed most. He said that the administration has also been taken hostage when it should have been allowed to carry out the relief and rehabilitation work. Instead of heeding woes of the flood affected families of Marwah, the minister has been indulging into inauguration spree for cheap publicity and photo sessions.
“For the last three days the minister has been inaugurating various projects at Marwah without caring for flood affected families”, he said and pointed out that huge chunk of agriculture land was washed away in Marwah also. The PDP leader said flouting of their own government’s orders by the minister shows their political bankruptcy and lack of control of the Chief Minister over his own political executive.
