Minister’s educational complex on forest land; DB grants two weeks to DC for filing objections

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: A Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan, on Monday granted two weeks’ time for filing objections to a petition, seeking registration of FIR against sitting BJP Cabinet Minister Abdul Gani Kohli and others for alleged encroachment of 10 Kanals forest land by the Minister at Nowabad Sunjwan where he is stated to have raised a huge educational complex comprising a B.Ed College, ETT College, B.N. Para Medical School, B.N. Public School, ATM and Branch of J&K Bank.
The directions came after hearing the petitioner Advocate Ankur Sharma and the counsel for defendants. The counsel for the Deputy Commissioner Jammu was asked to file objections.
Quoting the status report filed by State Vigilance Organisation on 29th July 2016, Advocate Sharma submitted that on Page No. 9 of the report it has been observed that the enquiries conducted so far have established that the institutions and other infrastructure owned and managed by Abdul Gani Kohli on Khasra No 356 of village Nowabad Sunjwan as per reports of the concerned authorities is a forest land thereby substantiating the basic allegations of the petitioner.
Further elaborating on the role of DC Jammu, Advocate Sharma quoting the report said that the officials of the Revenue department prepared an unauthentic demarcation report and brought it on record in a conflicting manner deliberately. The Vigilance Organisation has lamented the part played by DC Jammu for his suspicious role in delaying and stalling a joint demarcation to be conducted on the land occupied by the Minister.
