JAMMU: Mechanical Engineering Department smashed Computer Engineering Department by 2-1 sets and lifted the Second Fazil Abbas Rolling inter-department Volleyball trophy organised by Government Polytechnic, here on Monday.
During the nail biting final match, Mechanical Engineering Department defeated Computer Engineering Department by 24-21 in the first set, whereas Computer Engineering Department equalised the game and registered win by 24-23. In the final set, Mechanical Engineering registered win by 24-22 and lifted the title trophy.
The tournament was played on the name of brilliant student of the college late Fazil Abbas, 4th semester Architecture who passed away on 4th May, 2015.
On the valedictory function, Er Arun Bangotra, Principal of the Institute awarded the winner and runner-up teams.
Principal laid stress on the importance of sports activities and encouraged the students to participate in sports activities which develops the quality of leadership, sense of responsibility and create the feeling of oneness by working together to become the good citizen of India.
In the tournament, eight teams from the various departments participated and were vying for the coveted trophy.
The tournament was organised under the overall supervision of Joginder Sharma, Physical Education Master of Sports Department and Er. K.S Bhatia, HOD Mechanical, who presented the vote of thanks.
Others present were Er. Inderjeet Singh, Er. Munish Kumar, Er. Zia-ul Haq Kohli, Er. K.S Manhas, Er. Manjeet Singh, Tariq Amin, Harinder Arora, staff and students of the college.
