MBBS students conduct prevalence survey in GMC Jammu

JAMMU: The MBBS students of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, who participated in first Point Prevalence Survey under Antimicrobial Resistance programme conducted by Department of Pharmacology under aegis of National Centre for Disease Control, MoHFW, GoI in collaboration with WHO, were awarded Certificates of Training and participation by Principal and Dean GMC Jammu Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma.
In all, 200 UG and PG students were trained to conduct this survey in different wards of Medicine, Surgery, Gyane & Obstetrics, Paediatrics, orthopaedic, ENT, ICU of GMC & AH.
The data collected in this survey has already been shared with NCDC in a workshop by nodal officer for aforesaid survey from GMC Jammu, Dr Vivek Mahajan.
The Principal appreciated the students who actively participated in training and conduct of this survey.
She emphasised the need of judicious use of Antimicrobials as COVID-19 pandemic has already made us realise the importance of Antibiotics and further added that it’s only way forward as very limited new antibiotics are in pipeline.
Dr Seema Gupta HoD Pharmacology added that budding doctors should learn from the beginning the use of the evidence based medicine in the field of medicine especially in this era of increasing antibiotics resistant.
Dr Nusrat Bhat, Dr Sharminder, Dr Rajesh, Dr Shamiya and other faculty members and senior residents of Department of Pharmacology attended the program.
