Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati welcomed the move of ‘One Country One Election’ bill to be brought in the Parliament by the BJP government. She said that all parties should have a consensus on this.
Mayawati said that some are showing the copy of the Constitution in their hands for political gain. Now, under its cover, even important issues of the country and public interest are being sidelined. The Constitution is being politicized, which is not right at all.
Mayawati said that Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, had sensed in the first Congress government formed in the country that while the power in the center and states is in the hands of people with casteist and narrow-minded mindset, the people of SC, ST and OBC classes who have been neglected for centuries, have seen this himself while being the first law minister in the center. Being concerned about this, he had even resigned from his post to the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
The BSP president said that although the Congress government of that time did not even allow him to speak in Parliament about the reasons for his resignation, he was then forced to put forth his views in the media.
The real face of the Congress on the Constitution was exposed. Even after Dr. Ambedkar’s death, the Congress government remained in power at the Centre for many years, but Dr. Ambedkar, who deserved the Bharat Ratna title in every respect, was not honoured with this title.
BSP president Mayawati said that being a party of the poor, it also welcomes the related bill brought by the BJP government regarding one country one election.
On this issue, it would be better for all parties to rise above party politics and work in the interest of the country and the general public. By holding simultaneous elections, the expenses will be reduced a lot. The general public will not be burdened by this.
There will also be no need to impose the election code of conduct frequently, so that public welfare works will not be stopped. The Bahujan Samaj Party believes that it is not right to do any politics in the guise of this issue. All parties should support this bill in the general public interest.
