JAMMU: Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, Saket leading healthcare service provider of North India today tied up with K C Mediplex, B C Road in Jammu to extend its healthcare services to Jammu.
Dr Ramneek Mahajan, Director Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital will be conducting the Joint Replacement OPD in Jammu on every second Saturday of the month from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Dr Ramneek Mahajan, flanked by Dr Shalu Mengi Director-K C Mediplex, said, “Max Healthcare announced their endeavour to extend its expertise in musculoskeletal sciences to the residents of Jammu, hence eliminating the need to travel to the metro cities for availing basic consultation.”

Dr Ramneek shared, “Ortho pains are often neglected by people until it becomes a huge concern causing distress. The young workers of today’s generation lead a sedentary lifestyle- they spend long hours sitting in the same position, mostly in a wrong posture, at their office and do not realise the importance of motion for the joints of the body. As a result, relatively younger people are developing joint disorders and knee pains. There are several factors that cause knee pain like osteoporosis characterized by extremely thin and weak bones, injuries, age-related wear and tear and osteoarthritis.”
He further added, “We would like to take this opportunity to sensitise the society about the increasing orthopaedic problems in India. With the changing lifestyle in the country, the age groups suffering from bone diseases are getting younger. Both men and women lose their bone density by 0.3 to 0.5 percent after the age of 35. Late night shifts, smoking, long hours in front of the computer and irregular eating habits is making orthopaedic problems a lifestyle disease. Increase in alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking (which are high calcium stealers) run a higher risk of acquiring bone diseases. Through the upcoming camp we hope to spread awareness about the importance of early detection in orthopaedic diseases” “In India, 50 per cent of the people above 60 years complain of chronic joint pains which include 10 per cent male and 18 per cent female patients. One in every four patients complains of knee-joint pain in India and the number is on the rise in the towns and metros owing to modern lifestyle and work patterns. In India, every third person above the age of 70 years suffers from Arthritis,” he said.
