JAMMU: Advisor to Chief Minister, Professor Amitabh Mattoo, on Sunday inaugurated the AIKS Cricket League being organised by All India Kashmir Samaj in association with JK Police here at Parade Ground. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Mattoo said that sports activities help channelise the energy of youth in right direction, imbibe team spirit and increase patience and tolerance among the young generation. He further said that it is endeavor of the government to organise such sporting events in every part of the state to provide equal opportunities of growth and development to children from all regions.
Mattoo opined that organizing sports events will help in eradication of drug menace in the society as games help youth stay away from social evils by keeping them busy. “Sports contribute in keeping youth away from drugs which is increasingly becoming a serious cause of concern for the society” he added.
Prof Mattoo also interacted with the players from participating teams and asked them to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship.
In today’s match between Jammu Vishal Eleven and Jammu Rising Star, Jammu Vishal Eleven won the match after a hard contest at parade ground.
Hundreds of spectators came to witness today’s thrilling match between these two teams known for their quality players.
Others who attended the function included MLC Surindar Ambardar, M.K Dhar PRO to Chief Minister, JK Sports Council officers and prominent citizens.
