Jammu: While body of a 32-year-old man was on Saturday recovered from Ranbir Canal in the outskirts of Jammu city, a teenaged boy on Saturday drowned when he was taking a bath in Kishtwar, police said.
The body retrieved from the canal was identified as Bodh Raj of Kalri village in Gharota area of the district. He was recovered from Ranbir Irrigation Canal in Mishriwala area of the city in the morning, SHO Kanachak, Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar said.
Raj was missing for the past 5-6 days and a report in this regard was also lodged at Gharota Police Station by his family members, he said.
Body was sent for postmortem and it will be handed over to the family for last rites after legal formalities, he said.
Meanwhile, a teenaged boy today drowned when he was taking a bath in Kishtwar, police said.
14-year-old Hashim Hussain was bathing in the river when he slipped into the water and drowned, police said.
The body was fished out from the river and sent to Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Chatroo for postmortem, they said, adding, it will be handed over to his family after completing the formalities.
According to a report from Poonch, an army jawan was injured in an accidental fire while cleaning his service rifle here, police said.
Sepoy Gurpreet Singh received bullet injuries on his hand when two bullets went off from his service rifle while cleaning it at Sonawali Gali Post in Mendhar area of the district yesterday, they said.
Initially admitted at a local army hospital, the sepoy was later referred to the Military Hospital at Rajouri for specialised treatment, they added.
