VIJAYPUR: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh on Wednesday appealed to the Chief Secretary Iqbal Khandey to order a probe into the alleged misappropriation of money meant for flood affected people and its use in unapproved works of Rural Development and R&B Department in Samba.
Senior Congress leader visited villages of his constituency in Vijaypur where he interacted with the people who apprised him about the problems they were facing.
Issuing a statement, Manjit Singh alleged that the Rural Development and R&B Department have taken up works in Vijaypur and other areas which were unapproved.
These officials he alleged are hand in glove with the contractors and working on the behest of a local MLA.
“The officials have misappropriated money meant for flood affected people of the Vijaypur,” he alleged, while saying that instead of using money for the victims, a political leader of the area has been using with the help of officials of above said departments for political mileage.
He said that the Chief Secretary should order a probe into the matter and hand over its investigation to the State Vigilance Organisation to ascertain as to why the public money was diverted and used in unapproved works.
He further said that the affected people should be given benefits and the erring officials as well as the contractors should be punished for the wrongs.
