Man evading tax intercepted at Jammu Airport, penalty imposed

JAMMU: A man carrying gold in the shape of jewellery was on Sunday intercepted at Jammu Airport by the police during frisking.
In view of the increased alertness of Anti-Hijacking police, the security sleuths detected one passenger Suhail Mir, son of Abdul Qayoom Mir, resident of Sonawar, Pulpura – Srinagar travelling from Jammu to Srinagar (Spicejet -160) carrying 335 grams gold in the shape of jewellery amounting to Rs. 7.72 lakh.
“This jewellery was purchased from Malabar Gold and Diamonds -AL Watan Centre, Dubai,” said SSP AHJ Rajinder Gupta, adding “the matter was brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner, Commercial taxes, Jammu Khalid Majeed, who imposed a penalty of Rs. 23, 142 for tax evasion.
Here it is pertinent to mention that a number of tax evaders have been caught at Jammu Airport in the last one month.
