Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a massive five-year Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Campaign on Mahatma Gandhi’s 145th Birth Anniversary.
In addition, lakhs of State Government employees have been asked to be part of this massive drive launched by the Prime Minister.
For a campaign of this nature to be successful, there is a need to create massive public awareness and to ensure participation and action for cleaning homes, government offices, schools, hospitals, work places, streets, roads and markets, railway stations and bus terminals, statues, monuments, rivers, lakes, ponds, parks and other public places.
The whole country has geared up for the campaign. What actually can be done to make it a success at the ground level is a big question?[/box]

Rohil Jamwal, a student opined, ” I think to make Swachh Bharat Campaign a success we need a variety of activities such as pledge-taking marches, marathons, debates, street plays, music and essay competitions, cleaning drives and other community activities which can be used to focus public attention on this campaign and on the need for cleanliness. More emphasis should be given on awareness campaigns so that people can be educated.”
Himani Sharma, a homemaker shared, “I think through this campaign a change has been initiated. This is not just a government programme, but a trigger for social change and an initiative for a new national perspective. Clean India Campaign is a non-partisan, non-political, non-divisive, nationalist campaign. It is inclusive and invites people’s participation at all levels and for this social campaign to succeed, it requires all to come together.”
Kapil Verma, a Govt. employee shared, “I believe the cleanliness initiative taken up by PM needs to be followed by all in the right manner and spirit. Just going out and using the brooms to clean some dust/garbage on the street and getting flashed in the media will not serve the desired purpose. We should need to follow it strictly for maintaining cleanliness; be it on streets/public places or at home. Also, every citizen has a big role to play in this initiative.”
