Major security lapse: Bus with fake number plate attached with Jammu police, seized

JAMMU: Narwal police on Thursday seized a bus with fake registration number which was hired for pick and drop of Jawans posted in city for Amarnath Yatra.
According to the information, a complaint was received at Narwal police station that a bus attached with police duty is having fake number plate and a bus with same registration number (JK02AH: 6069) is also operating on Rajouri-Poonch route. On this information, police team, led by Sub Inspector Anchal Rana started investigation and seized the bus near the Army Transit Camp on Thursday.

During investigation, when the number plate number was matched with the chassis number, it was found out to be fake. Rohit Singh, driver of bus was also arrested for questioning and during investigation, it was found that the bus was engaged on police duty for picking and droping Jawans posted in Jammu city and its peripheral areas on daily basis. It is pertinent to mention here that the buses for Amarnath Yatra duty are being sanctioned from PCR’s MTO section. During the preliminary investigations, it has been ascertained that this bus was hired from contractor Ravinder and Company. “New registration number plate was attached with the old bus to make it operational,” the arrested driver told the police.
A senior police officer, however, said it is a serious matter and a serious security breach amid the high alert in entire J&K. Jammu SSP Chandan Kohli has appreciated the police team for detecting the bus with fake number plate in few minutes after receiving information.
