JAMMU: Former Minister for Higher Education and President Dogra Sadar Sabha Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak urged the concerned authorities to rectify the anomaly regarding duration of B.Ed and M.Ed courses in University of Jammu (JU) and University of Kashmir (KU). He was addressing a press conference in Jammu on Thursday.
Giving a reference of JU’s stand on the facts which necessitated the enhancement of duration of aforesaid courses from one year to two years duration and redefining the eligibility criteria viz percentage of marks for admission to the said courses in the University of Jammu from academic session 2015-16, he asked the authorities that when both universities are governed with same set of rules and under same Chancellor, Pro Chancellor and Higher Education department then what prompted the JU to take lead in introducing two years programme for B.Ed and M.Ed degrees when its counterpart in Kashmir is dormant over the issue.
Reacting to JU’s stand that Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956 makes it mandatory and binding on all the Universities and also that the UGC has vide its D.O. No. F5-1/2014(CPP-11) dated 11th July, 2014, mandated all the Universities to adhere to the approved nomenclature of degree(s), he questioned whether it is mandatory and binding on University of Jammu only and not on University of Kashmir.
