The celebration of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, which takes place on the day of Sharad Purnima, reminds us of the remarkable contributions of the great Indian poet and the author of the Ramayana, Maharishi Valmiki. He not only composed the Ramayana but also spread messages of discipline, restraint, and morality within society. Every aspect of his life teaches us that with determination and effort, any challenge in life can be overcome. Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti signifies that transformation is possible in anyone’s life, provided there is sincerity and dedication.

Maharishi Valmiki is credited with being the first poet in Sanskrit literature. His epic, the Ramayana, not only enriched Sanskrit literature but also showcased the importance of love, familial ethics, and resilience. From the life stories of Lord Rama and Sita to the principles of family and governance, Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayana has given an invaluable heritage to Indian culture. The Ramayana continues to be a source of inspiration for society, promoting peace and harmony if its teachings are adopted in daily life.

Maharishi Valmiki was a descendant of the creator Brahma and a revered sage. He provided the world with the first poetic narrative and introduced Lord Rama to the world. The significant contributions of Maharishi Valmiki have led the Modi government to name the airport in Ayodhya after him, ensuring that every visitor learns about his legacy. Furthermore, the initiative to revive the Maharishi Valmiki pilgrimage in Amritsar was also a commendable act by Prime Minister Modi, for which the Mahishasur community feels grateful.
The Maharishi Valmiki community has made significant contributions to Indian society. History bears witness that this community has played a vital role in selfless service, religious harmony, and social unity for the country. Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar recognized this community as an integral part of Indian society, which was originally prosperous and culturally rich but later faced social discrimination.
Despite India gaining independence over 70 years ago, the Valmiki community was marginalized for a long time, restricted to menial jobs such as sanitation work. They were not entitled to full citizenship rights or equal opportunities in education or government jobs. Their rights were limited, primarily confined to sanitation roles. Following the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, the Valmiki community finally received the rights they had long awaited.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, several policy decisions have been made to improve the conditions of this community. Today, Valmiki community members are also entitled to full citizenship rights, equal opportunities in education and government jobs, and are no longer limited to sanitation work.
This change heralds a new dawn for the Valmiki community. Where they were once restricted based on their work and identity, they are now emerging as equal contributors within society. Today, individuals from the Valmiki community are making their mark in education, governance, and various other fields. The society has changed; people from the Valmiki community are stepping into roles as officers, leaders, and social workers, breaking down the walls of discrimination.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made significant efforts to acknowledge the contributions and philosophies of Maharishi Valmiki. Every year, Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated with great enthusiasm, where discussions on his life and teachings take center stage. Various events are organized to showcase the contributions of Maharishi Valmiki to society.
Additionally, special programs have been implemented to promote education, such as scholarships and skill development initiatives, which assist the younger generation in gaining education and employment opportunities. The BJP has encouraged political participation from the Valmiki community, ensuring that their representation in politics has increased. Through these initiatives, the philosophy of Maharishi Valmiki is being brought to the forefront of society.
Prime Minister Modi’s government has been steadfast in its commitment to uplift the marginalized communities. Recently, prominent figures from the Valmiki community have been appointed as governors, ministers, and members of the Rajya Sabha, demonstrating representation in the highest echelons of government.
Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti teaches us that transformation is possible in life, whether at the individual level or within society as a whole. The struggles and advancements of the Valmiki community stand as a living testament to this truth. The rights granted to them after the abrogation of Article 370 have shown that every individual and community deserves equal opportunities and rights. The teachings and ideals of Maharishi Valmiki will continue to inspire us forever.
