JAMMU: Wrestler Shiva of Maharastra lifted the 31th annual Korga Dangal title defeating top J&K wrestler Benia of JKP in just 11 minutes at village Korga in district Jammu.
The winner felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 61,000 while Benia received Rs R 40,000 in this Rs one lakh title bout. Dangal was organized by Korga Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association under the supervision of Jagdish Singh (president) and Sat Paul Verma.
The second main bout went to Rashid of Vijaypur, who trounced Robbin Amritsar in Punjab. Winner Rashid was awarded with cash prize of Rs. 20,000 while runners-up Robbin got Rs. 15,000. In third bout, Nadeem (Rs 12,000) of J&K Police defeated Chandan (Rs 9,000) again from Amritsar in Punjab.
Surjit Singh (Rs 9,000) of J&K Police bagged the fourth main bout outplaying Maam Hussain (Rs 6,000) of Domel .
Senior BJP leader and Prabhari Kissan Morcha J&K, Nand Kishore Sharma was chief guest, who gave away cash prizes to the title holder wrestlers.
Former Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council and president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the valedictory function and Ram Paul Sharma, prominent wrestling promoter was guest of honour.
In all, 58 bouts played in this day-long wherein prizes worth Rs four lakh distributed.
Members of Korga Dangal Committee who helped in smooth conduct of dangal were Retired Captain Jagdish Singh (president) retired Captain, Nasib Singh, Madan lal, Chanchal Singh, Som Dutt Sharma, Kapoor Chand, Chuni Mistri, Pershotam Singh, retired Subadar Sansar Singh, Suram Singh, Makhan Lal, Noor Alam, Rashpaul Singh, Pritam Singh and Romesh Singh.
