JAMMU: Wrestler Mohinder Gaikward of Maharashtra clinched the 102nd International Bhatyari Korga Dangal title after he defeated Dinesh Guleria of Jhajjar in Haryana in the entertaining bout.
Dangal was organized by Rural Development Forum Bhatyari Korga (Regd.) in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association under the overall supervision of Ashok Kumar Sawheny (president), Vijay Kumar, Sat Paul Verma and Ram Paul Sharma.
Winner of the top bout, Mohinder awarded with whopping cash prize of Rs. 2,50,000 along with traditional ‘Gurj and Patta’ by Shiv Kumar Sharma, president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association and former Joint Secretary of J&K Sports Council. Runners-up, Dinesh got Rs 1,50,000. The cash awards for the title bout were sponsored by Ram Paul Sharma and his team.
In the second main bout, Shiva of Maharastra trounced Benia Min of J&K Police. While Shiva received a cash prize of Rs. 91,000, Benia got Rs. 60,000. The prize money of second bout sponsored by Mohan Lal (ex-Sarpanch) and family Sawhney Parivar, including Ashok Kumar Sawhney, Rajinder Kumar Sawhney, Naresh Kumar and Ajay Kumar Sawhney.
In third title bout, Mir Mohd. of Iran defeated Lovepreet of Khanna in Punjab to get Rs 60,000 cash prize. Runners-up, Lovepreet presented Rs 40,000. The fourth bout of the Dangal won by Ishaq Ahmed (Lallu) of J&K Police, who defeated wrestler Ashish of Haryana. Lallu got Rs. 31,000 while runners-up Lovepreet given Rs. 20,000 as prize money by the organisers.
In this well attended Dangal, ARTO Jammu, Kuldeep Singh; ex-president Yuva Rajput Sabha, Rajan Singh(Happy); BDC chairman, Rehmat Ali; Varinder Badyal, Ram Paul Sharma, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri) and Deep Singh (Pinka)were among other Guests of Honour.
Members of Rural Development Forum Bhatyai Korga, who helped in the conduct of historic and famous dangal included Ashok Kumar Sawhney (president), Vijay Kumar, Sat Paul Verma, Kuldeepak Sawhney, Sudesh Sawhney, Sham Parshad (working president), ex- Sarpanch Mohan Lal Sawhney, Rakhi Sharma, Kuldeep Sharma, Babbu Pandit and Kuldeep Singh.
The bouts were officiated by Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Deepak Wazir, Sat Paul Verma, Lochan Singh, Om Parkash Verma, Raj Singh, Sunny Sharma and Anil Kumar.
In total, over 100 wrestlers contested for around 50 bouts in this day-long event which incurred an expense of over Rs. 9 lakh.
