JAMMU: Hosts Mahant Bachitter Singh Club and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Club Poonch won their respective matches to move into the next round of quarterfinals in the ongoing Ist Mahant Bachitter Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at Government High School, Simbal Camp ground, on Tuesday . In the first pre-quarterfinal match, Mahant Bachitter Singh Club blanked New National Higher Secondary School 5-0. Harpreet Singh opened the account in the sixth minute, followed by two back to back goals from Gaganpreet Singh and Gurkirat Singh in the 14th minute. Gaganpreet and Gurkirat improved their individual tally netting the ball in the 50th and 55th minute to make it a one-sided contest. Gurkirat Singh was declared Man of the Match and awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1,000 by Special Guest, Naib Sarpanch, Gurmeet Kour Meanwhile, in another pre-quarterfinal, played in the evening session, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Club Poonch trounced Youngster Hockey Club 6-2 in a well contested game. Gurdev Singh brought in the first blood in the very fourth minute of the match.
It was followed by two goals from Ramanjot Singh, who beat the goal-keeper in the sixth and 50th minute of the match. Matinderpal Singh (21st), Rakshit Sharma (26th) and Abhimanyu (45th) were other scorers.
For Youngster Club Simbal Camp, Rajan Kumar and Vikram Kanwar netted the ball in the 16th and 35th minute respectively.
Transporter, Gagan Singh was Special Guest in the second match, who awarded Rs 500 cash prize to Man of the Match, Manpreet Singh.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical penal including Daljeet Singh Bhatia, Joginder Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Shivam Sharma, Navjyoti Singh, GS Bakshi, Jaspreet Singh, Rajinder Singh and Kunwarpreet Singh.
