Mahajan seeks simplification of voting process for migrants

STATE TIMES NEWS

JAMMU: Hailing Kashmiri migrant voters from Jammu, Udhampur and other areas for their active participation during recently held DDC elections, despite facing numerous problems, Kashmiri Khatri Hindu Mahasabha (KKHM) urged the administration to simplify voting process, so that migrants can participate in the democratic process more actively. In a press statement issued here, Ramesh Chander Mahajan, Chairman KKHM said that Kashmiri migrant voters, despite facing challenges like COVID-19 pandemic, freezing weather conditions etc, participated in democratic process enthusiastically. Election Department had set-up only two special polling booths for all Kashmiri migrants at Jammu and Udhampur, without awareness and campaigning which created a lot of confusions among migrant voters. “Authorities have not updated electoral rolls of Kashmiri migrants which are full of discrepancies, causing a lot of resentment among migrants,” he added. Mahajan appealed to the Union territory administration and Centre Govt for simplification of elections process in upcoming elections do that migrant votes can exercise their franchise without any trouble.
