HIRANAGAR: Lower Mela Volleyball Club lifted boys and GDC Kathua claimed girls titles of two-day District Kathua Volleyball Under-19 Championship, organized by District Volleyball Association Kathua under the aegis of J&K Volleyball Association and sponsorship by J&K Sports Council at volleyball grounds Govt High School Mela, here on Sunday.
In the boy’s final, Lower Mela Volleyball Club beat Upper Mela Volleyball Club by 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-22) whereas in girls section, GDC Kathua beat Upper Mela by straight 3-0 sets.
Earlier, in semi-finals matches in boys section, Lower Mela Volleyball Club beat Chakra Volleyball Club by 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 25-16, 25-15) and Upper Mela beat Volleyball Club Bhaiya by 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-17).
In the closing ceremony, Sudesh Kumar (Pappu), Sarpanch of Kattal Brahmana was the Chief Guest who distributed prizes among the winner and runner-up teams.
The winner teams (Boys &Girls) were given trophies and cash prize of Rs. 2100 each whereas runner-up teams were given trophies and Rs. 1100 each.
Balwan Singh of Chhan Kanly gave Rs.11000 and Ajay Kumar of Lower Mela gave Rs. 5100 as reward to players.
A large number of volleyball-lovers thronged the grounds to enjoy the matches.
Other dignitaries present were Dheeraj Singh Katoch SDPO Border, Tilak Raj Bhardwaj DySP SOG, Arun Kaul SHO Hiranagar, M.L Toofan Patron-in-Chief District Volleyball Association Kathua, Sudesh Kumar Sethu BJP Mandal Pardhan, Rakesh Sharma, Attar Singh Senior Vice-President, Mohinder Sharma General Secretary, Rakesh Goswamy Vice-President, Keshav Sharma Cashier, Ram Lal Joint Secretary, Pitambhar Sharma Chief Manager J&K Bank, and Sarpanchs and Panchs of the adjoining Panchayats.
