JAMMU: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) on Saturday booked seven traders for violating the provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act, 1997 and Rules and realised Rs 8,800 as fine.
A team of LMD comprising Inspectors M. Khateeb and Rohit Gupta under the supervision of Dy. Controller Enforcement, V.S Sambyal conducted surprise checking of the trading establishments in the areas Akhnoor, Janipur, Shakti Nagar, Vinayak Bazaar and Bus Stand. During checking, the team detected seven traders indulging in sale of packaged goods without mandatory declarations and use of unverified digital scales in commercial transactions.
The traders were booked under provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act, 1997 and Rules and a compound money of Rs.8,800 was realised on the spot by the Dy. Controller Enforcement.
The Legal Metrological Department also booked some auto rickshaw owners for using unverified auto-rickshaw fare meters.
The department appealed to the traders dealing with fruits and vegetables to display rates in their trading premises for the information of consumers.
