LMD realises Rs 15,600 from erring traders

POONCH: A team of officials of Legal Metrology Department conducted a series of raids at various trade establishments in Poonch town and its adjoining areas and realised a sum of Rs-15,600 as composition sum.
Under the supervision of Assistant Controller LM, Kewal Krishan, Inspector LM, Pritum Chand booked several traders indulging in anti-consumer practices. Various trades such as Karyana stores, vegetable shops, hardware, poultry, ration depots etc were extensively inspected and defaulters booked and fined on the spot. Most of the traders were found using un-re-verified weights and measure instruments whereas under rules every weighing and measuring machines/instruments mandatorily requires periodic re-verification from the office of the concerned Inspector of Legal Metrology.
Traders have been warned not to indulge in any kind of anti-consumer practice and use only verified and stamped weighing and measuring instruments and ensure exact quantity of commodity to the consumers for which they are paying.
While referring to Legal Metrology as front line organisation in protecting the rights of consumers, the Assistant Controller appealed to the general public to register their genuine complaints, if any, with the Office of the Assistant Controller, Poonch and assert their right as vigilant consumers.
Meanwhile, the department also issued legal notices to the traders who
closed their trade premises to evade inspection during market checking in several pockets.
A dozen of traders have been summoned for production of verification certificates in the Office of the Assistant Controller.
