LMD penalizes two petrol pumps

SRINAGAR: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) conducted surprise inspection of different markets of Srinagar City under the supervision of Joint Controller Ahsan Ali Khan and booked two petrol pumps in downtown Srinagar for delivering 40 ml short in every five litres and another pump at Hyderpora Bye Pass was found issuing 30 ml short in every 5 litres measure. Both the petrol pump managements were penalized for the short deliveries. A penal sum of Rs 10,000 was slapped on the erring dealers.

To ensure proper delivery of the petrol and diesel pumps, the retail dealer of the Oil Company has to keep a verified 5 litre and 10 litre capacity measures in his premises and check the output from the pump every day to ensure its correct delivery. In case of any erratic delivery the retail dealer shall stop the delivery through the dispensing unit immediately and inform the concerned Legal Metrology Officer to recalibrate the dispensing unit.

The retail dealer shall also display in a conspicuous place in the premises a notice informing that above capacity measures are available for the consumer to ensure correct delivery.

Moreover, the retail outlets of Oil Companies have to keep the facility of air (free of charge), first-aid box, toilet facility available to the customers in addition to facility of checking adulteration of petroleum products in case of any doubt about the quality of fuel dispensed through the pump.
