This refers to reports that there could be a ban on live telecasts of anti-terror operations. The move to ban live coverage by television of anti-terror operations, cannot come a day later. It is hoped that the government will stand by its resolve and not buckle down before the din that is likely to be created by television channels in the name of transparency.
It has been a matter of grave concern that private television channels have not been able to stand the test of self-regulation even in matters concerning the security of the country, in their zeal to increase ratings and to fill the 24-hour time of telecast. It is hoped that the ban will also include the supply of information and analyses of all the strategies that were used in successful anti-terror operations, or are being planned for the future.
