Jammu: Clash between a prisoner, facing life imprisonment in a murder case, and five under-trials created chaos in Kot Bhalwal late last evening, put the jail staff on tenterhooks.
The convict Karanjit Singh alias Dolly, known as informer of SP Jail, was over-powered by the five under trials among others during the clash. Dolly sustained injuries during the scuffle. He was admitted in the Jail Hospital after doctors advised him complete bed rest.
A pharmacist, namely Bansi Lal, posted inside jail also received injuries in the clash.
Sources told STATE TIMES that Dolly, who is lodged in Block No. 7 of the Jail went to Block No. 8 where he entered into verbal duel with some under-trials.
When Dolly attacked Amit Kalra, a group of five under trails overpowered him and gave him severe thrashing.
Jail authorities have reported the matter to Ghrota Police Station. A case has been registered against Kulvinder Singh alias Kinda, son of Nirmal Singh; Mangal Singh, son of Bhagat Singh, resident of Gorkha Nagar, Jammu; Amit Kalra, son of Inder Sain, resident of Sarwal and others.
The jail authorities were trying to cover up this episode and that is the reason for Dolly not having been shifted to GMC Hospital for treatment.
Sources said that Dolly has received multiple head injuries.
FIR 60/14 under sections 353/332/323 has been registered at Ghrota Police Station against the under trials.
On, 19th Feb, 1998, Karan Jeet Singh alias Dolly, son of Dalip Singh, resident of Simbal Camp, Tehsil R.S.Pura, Jammu was convicted and sentenced rigorous imprisonment for life, under Section 302, RPC and one year’s imprisonment under Sections 4/27 Arms Act. On 26th May, 2004, the High Court confirmed the punishment.
According to case, on 6th July 1992, during celebration of marriage of daughter of Sangat Singh in his house at Simbal Camp Tikri, Ward No. 1, Karanjit Singh alias Dolly had attacked Ajit Paul Singh, son of Ujagar Singh with a kirch and killed him.
