LG presents Gallantry Awards, Distinguished Service Decorations at J&K Police Investiture Ceremony

JAMMU: The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Tuesday presented Gallantry Awards and Distinguished Service Decorations at the Jammu Kashmir Police Investiture Ceremony held at Raj Bhawan.
During the Ceremony, 218 medals were conferred by the Lt Governor to the Police Personnel. President’s Police medal for Gallantry was awarded to Constable Imtiyaz Ahmad (posthumously for Year 2019) who had attained martyrdom during terrorist attack at SoG camp, Pulwama. The medal was received by his wife Shahnaz Akhtar.
Constable Imtiyaz was martyred on 25th of August 2017 when he was leaving from his residential quarter to perform duties in SOG Camp Pulwama and notices iniquitous movement of some gunmen heading towards SOG Camp in a rush.
He asked them to stop; they indiscriminately fired upon the constable in which he got injured, triggering an encounter. Despite being injured he continued to fight back and did not allow the Fidayeen to come close to the SOG Camp. In the process, the terrorists threw some UBGLs towards the brave heart due to which he was seriously injured and later attained martyrdom. The braveheart displayed conspicuous gallantry, courage and devotion to duty of a higher order. Three Pakistani terrorists were gunned down in that encounter. Police medals for Gallantry were awarded to 157 police personnel. Police medal for Distinguished Services were awarded to three retired Police Officers. Police medals for Meritorious Services were awarded to 57 Police Officers.
Among those present on the occasion were Advisor to Lt Governor, R.R Bhatnagar; DGP J&K Police, Dilbag Singh and other senior police officers. The list of awardees and photographs of the function are attached.
